“Cities for recovery”: boosting resilience for future shocks and ensuring a recovery that is both social and green

The mayors of several European cities that have recently received funds from the CEB, Council of Europe Development Bank, participated in the series of interviews called "Cities for Recovery" focused on the management and recovery plans for the crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

All mayors answered to the same set of questions related to the measures that their respective cities are taking to mitigate the social and economic Impact of the pandemic and their expectations from the cooperation with national and European actors.

“Cities are the frontline to cope with the COVID19 emergency” states Marco Bucci, the Mayor of Genoa, explaining what are the measures that the city of Genoa is taking and how the Municipality acts to reduce the urban inequalities.

The mayor continues talking that not only economic and social aspects were dealt with, on a green level the City is committed to meeting the goals of climate change. A resilient city strategy has been recently approved, named Lighthouse, where the focus is placed on three strategic assets, respectively Green, Grey and Soft, to redraw public spaces and to establish green sustainable connections. “A vision” highlighted the Mayor, to help the people to enjoy the city under new rules.
